We specialize in precision form grinding of intricate shapes on long slender materials. P-20 & 4140 pre-hard steel are most commonly used. However, hardened D-2, A-2, H-13 & Stainless have been used as well. Components are routinely ground straight and parallel to within .0005″ up to 36″ long and .001″ up to 60″ long. Parting line mismatches generally do not exceed .001″ Overall dimensional tolerance within .002″ is standard. Tighter tolerances within .0005″ are often achievable. Surface finishes directly off of the grinder typically measure less than 10 uin Ra. Most dies have ground angular locking or keyways for extremely accurate alignment along the engagement length and easy servicing.

We now have Diamond-Chrome in our arsenal. This deposit combines nano size diamond spheroids into the chrome matrix. This increases surface hardness while significantly reducing friction and corrosion. It is applied about .0005″ thick to maintain flatness uniformity.

Most components need corrosion and wear protection. All hard chrome plating is applied here. Typically we use HEEF 25, a “High Efficiency Etch Free” coating that is denser than most chrome plating deposits. Its super hard 1200 Knp scale (Knoop) or 72 Rc scale equivalent is fifth to only diamond, cubic boron nitride and a couple of other engineered coatings that can be applied only millionths thick. We specifiy a minimum of .001″ thick deposit in female radii as small as 1/32″ and up to .005″ elsewhere. Chrome plating can be applied as much as .015″ where dimensional build ups or more protection is required. Chrome plating thickness and flatness are often controlled with elaborate anode construction. Typical thickness varies within .005″ up to 60″ long depending on the configuration.

We also grind hard chrome plating routinely to the same exacting standards when flatness specifications need tighter control or when dimension build ups and thicker coating requirements are specified. This can be achieved on a 3 x 1 channel or a 12 x 20 steel block ground on all sides flat and parallel. Always sharp edges, never anying chipping.

Internal flow surfaces are polished before and after plating to under 10 uin Ra. More typical surface finishes measure 6 – 8 uin Ra.

We rebuild dies and breathe new life into your old worn out tooling for less than half the price of a new one. Wear outs can be micro welded and remachined, repolished and replated to original or better specifications.
